A 70% fall in pipe bursts through pressure management.

A pressure management system was installed on the Bodrum drinking-water network to prevent bursts caused by high pressure; pressure imbalances arising from elevation differences were resolved.

The challenge

Large elevation differences caused pressure imbalances on the network; at night, excess pressure caused pipe bursts.

The solution

Pressure-reducing valves and PRV (Pressure Reducing Valve) systems were installed. Pressure monitoring points were set up and central tracking commissioned; night pressure was optimised.

Results

  • pipe bursts fell by 70%,
  • night pressure optimisation was achieved,
  • network service life was extended,
  • a 30% saving in energy costs was achieved.

Result

Managing pressure cuts both loss and bursts.

Excess pressure raises both the leak flow and the risk of new bursts. Pressure management is one of the lowest-cost loss reduction methods.
